Distant Language Training

Take part in this series of five Far/Eastern language skills and learn various techniques for teaching Portuguese to native speakers of Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Russian and Arabic. How to teach Portuguese to Japanese speakers

In this training, we will address historical and geographical aspects of Japan, as well as cultural characteristics that are relevant for the Portuguese teacher to know. We will also show the main difficulties Japanese speakers have in learning Portuguese, considering grammatical, structural and phonetic issues. We will recommend didactic materials, authentic activities and the best tips for the teacher to develop Portuguese classes for native speakers of this language.

Teacher

Spec. Lucila MY Matsumoto

Graduated in Spanish / Portuguese Languages from the University of São Paulo (2003) and specialist in Portuguese from the State University of Campinas (2012). He has been teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE) since 2006, targeting adults, young people and children. She has experience as coordinator and teacher of a PLE course in Japan (2006-2008) and as an evaluator of the Celpe-Bras proficiency exam. He has also participated in a congress in the area of Literature presenting the article: Portuguese as a Foreign Language: a reflection on teaching Portuguese and Brazilian culture to the Japanese. It is one of the founding partners of Grupo Sou Brasil, a group specialized in supporting and training PLE teachers through events and training, and Projeto Pipoca, aimed at teaching Portuguese as a Heritage Language and Portuguese as a Foreign Language for children.

How to teach Portuguese to Korean speakers

In this training, we will address historical and geographical aspects of South Korea, as well as cultural characteristics that are relevant for the Portuguese teacher to know. We will also show the main difficulties Korean speakers have in learning Portuguese, considering grammatical, structural and phonetic issues. We will recommend didactic materials, authentic activities and the best tips for the teacher to develop Portuguese classes for native speakers of that language.

Bad. Letícia Soares Bortolini

She holds a degree in Portuguese/English Languages from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and a Master's in Applied Linguistics from the same University. She has been teaching Portuguese as an additional language since 2001, having, during her training, experience as a teacher in the Portuguese for Foreigners Program at UFRGS, at the Uruguayo-Brasileño Cultural Institute (Montevideo, Uruguay) and at the Brasil-Colombia Cultural Institute (Bogotá , Colombia). In 2009, she started her work as a professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Seoul, South Korea). For 5 years, he worked in the eastern country with undergraduate and graduate courses in Portuguese and teaching in companies. She has experience as an administrator of the oral and written parts and as a proofreader of the Celpe-Bras Exam, having been coordinator of the Examination Post of the exam at HUFS (South Korea) during her stay at the university. He is currently dedicated to remote private teaching of Portuguese to students from all over the world, to the discussions of the Avalia research group (UFRGS) and to the production of didactic material.

In this training, we will address historical and geographical aspects of China, as well as cultural characteristics that are relevant for the Portuguese teacher to know. We will also show the main difficulties for Chinese speakers to learn Portuguese, considering grammatical, structural and phonetic issues. We will recommend didactic materials, authentic activities and the best tips for the teacher to develop Portuguese classes for native speakers of this language.

Teacher

doctor Caio Cesar Christiano

He has a degree in Portuguese-English from the Santo André Foundation. Master in Brazilian Literature from the University of Poitiers and PhD in Linguistics from the same university. He has 21 years of experience teaching FL in Brazil, France and China. His areas of research and teaching are divided between the teaching of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, corpus linguistics and audiovisual translation. He is the author of "The Practice of Teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language" (2017) and co-author of the two volumes of the Portuguese with Texts collection.

How to teach Portuguese to Russian speakers

In this training, we will address historical and geographical aspects of Russia, as well as cultural characteristics that are relevant for the Portuguese teacher to know. We will also show the main difficulties for Russian speakers to learn Portuguese, considering grammatical, structural and phonetic issues. We will recommend didactic materials, authentic activities and the best tips for the teacher to develop Portuguese classes for native speakers of that language.

Dr. Anna Smirnova Henriques

She is Russian, graduated in Biology at the University of Tomsk, Russia, has a master's and doctorate in Sciences from UNIFESP. He is currently doing a post-doctorate in Applied Linguistics at PUC-SP in Russian-Portuguese bilingualism, focusing on the acquisition of Brazilian Portuguese by Russian speakers. In addition, she is in the last semester of the degree in Letters, Portuguese Language and Respective Literatures, at Ulbra. He has been teaching Portuguese as a foreign language since 2015, mainly for Russian speakers, including preparation for Celpe-Bras. She is the author of the articles “Oral proficiency in Brazilian Portuguese: scenario, contexts of evaluation and instruction and questions” (Revista da ABRALIN, 2020), “The main difficulties of Russian-speaking immigrants in writing in Brazilian Portuguese: _cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b -136bad5cf58d_analysis of essays written during preparation for the Celpe-Bras” (Scripta, 2021) and also of other works in the area of experimental phonetics, sociolinguistics and sociology. She also teaches Russian as a foreign language and is a Russian proficiency test taker, certified by the University of Saint Petersburg.

How to teach Portuguese to Arabic speakers

In this training, we will address historical and geographical aspects of the Arab countries, as well as cultural characteristics that are relevant for the Portuguese teacher to know. We will also show the main difficulties for Arabic speakers to learn Portuguese, considering grammatical, structural and phonetic issues. We will recommend didactic materials, authentic activities and the best tips for the teacher to develop Portuguese classes for native speakers of that language.

Teacher

Bad. Nisrine Raad

She has been a foreign language teacher (French, English and Arabic) for over 19 years, in Brazil and Lebanon. Since 2014, he has been teaching PLE at the Centro Cultural Brasil-Lebanon, teaching adults, youth and children. Recently, he took over the  pedagogical coordination of the Centre. Also, since 2017 she is the coordinator of the Celpe-Bras Post in Lebanon. In charge of the focal point of the Harmonization project of curricular proposals for teaching Portuguese abroad of Rede Brasil "Portuguese in the units of the Itamaraty Teaching Network in medium-distance language contexts", helping in the unification and creation of Teaching Units. Bachelor of Arts, Sociologist and Master in People Management. Received the CELTA and Celta Young Learners diploma from Cambridge. Believes in communicative and dynamic methodology in teaching additional languages.
